Important: If you are applying for a young person under 16yrs, please read this note. More...
It gives me great pleasure to announce Northamptonshire Orchestral Winds’ first band camp, summer school or summer course. This Summer Course is open to all wind band instrument players in the community (not just the NOW Community) and will focus on excellence, musicianship, ensemble, balance, intonation, and technical expertise. Expert professional conductors and trainers will be brought in to work alongside NOW’s Musical Director Andrew Bassey to bring a course to remember.
Tim Reynish will be the main conductor, and with his vast experience this will surely be a course that everyone will benefit from. The Advanced Wind Orchestra will learn cutting edge wind music possibly with a world premiere.
The course is planned to run from Friday morning to Monday evening with a concert for all the bands at the end which will be open to the public. The course will be packed full with educational classes, inspirational conducting and music making, with a chance to browse and purchase wind band music and try and buy musical instruments from the trade stands. In particular trumpet players have the brilliant opportunity to try the up and coming and much acclaimed Geneva Trumpet which will be demonstrated by the fantastic principal trumpet in the London Symphony Orchestra, Rod Franks.
We envisage a non-residential course open to all woodwind, brass and percussion players. People coming from a distance could be advised where to stay. Cooked meals will be provided but they are not included in the course price, they are extra (so if you want to provide your own – go ahead).
Course fees are kept down to a minimum. If you want to come but finances are an issue we may be able to help. Also if you would like to donate to help musicians with financial difficulties you can click here .
The location is University of Northampton, Avenue Campus, St. George’s Avenue, Northampton, NN2 6JD. Please complete this online application form , the next link to this is at the foot of the page.

NOW supports practical music education in the community
CHILDREN ON THE NOW SUMMER COURSE (UNDER 16 yrs).
We are not against children being involved in NOW. We do have children as young as 8. Usually their parents are learning alongside them. Therefore for the purposes of this course and bearing in mind that this is a non-residential course and there is no pastoral care specifically for the children, we will allow children on the course as long as they are accompanied by an adult with specific parental responsibility for that child. The adult does not have to play in the same group but must be on-site as long as the child is on-site. At 16yrs and above young people can attend without an adult. Please tell us if you are in this position at the time you make your application.
NOW was set up in October 2005 to provide a very high standard of music education through training in wind bands and ensembles within the community. NOW also makes this available at a very affordable rate so as to give anyone who has this interest the opportunity to learn whether ‘rich or poor’. If you do not already play an instrument please sign up for a beginner class which only costs £2 an hour. If this or any other course is not affordable due to you being unwaged etc., please speak to us we may be able to help. If you would like to donate to the Summer Course and help NOW in its objectives, please donate using the secure Paypal link below.
